The October meeting marked our second SAE (otherwise known as show and tell) meeting of the year. Five participants shared outstanding examples of their printed photographs.
SAE presentations
Wendy Floyd brought several beautiful metal prints produced by White House Custom Color (whcc.com). She demonstrated various display options for metal prints and also showcased a calendar that she sells, printed through Calendars.com.
Ron Thill presented a nice metal print from Bay Photo (Bayphoto.com). At my invitation, he also shared several useful photo accessories, including: a ring light for doing macros, compact cases for holding spare batteries and cards, and a monopod/gimbal head set up he uses for increased stability in the field. Click here for a link to the Gimbal head and here for the footing to go with it.
Jay Schwartz displayed a selection of elegant prints from the German company Whitewall. (whitewall.com) These prints stood out due to their unusual combinations of textured paper and unique inks – definitely worth exploring.
Becky Fleck showed us a frame she uses for exhibiting her work at the Angelina Gallery show. Purchased via Amazon, she noted the availability of some great deals – definitely worth considering for our gallery show next year.
I brought an “Xposer” print from Bay Photo. printed on specialty paper and attached to a metal frame for easy hanging. Click here for a link. I also shared a few budget friendly frames from Blick, hoping to spark ideas for affordable display options. Click here for a link to one of these frames. Don’t forget – the club has plenty of glass available if you need it!
Minimalism Challenge
We had some wonderful entries for this month’s challenge. I was honored to tie for first place with Ron Thill, Wendy Floyd earned second place, and Pam Kulhavy took third. Congratulations to all winners. All entries have been posted to our Facebook page. Ron suggested “Natue” as the theme for our November challenge – a perfect fit, as we’ll be discussing nature photography to help shape next year’s gallery show guidelines.
Tom Willis Memorial Update
Thanks to your generous contributions, we raised $170 for the Tom Willis Memorial Fund. This donation will go to the Arbor Day Foundation and will result in the planting of 150 trees – a fitting tribute to our friend Tom.
Chamber Liaison
As Chamber members, we’re now eligible to participate in various events – golf tournaments, banquets, meetings, and ribbon cuttings to name a few. I’m looking for a volunteer to serve as our official Chamber Liaison. You’ll have the flexibility to choose which events to attend and keep the club informed about Chamber activities.
Officer Openings
We currently have three officer positions open for next year; President, Vice President, and Secretary. For job descriptions please see our bylaws on the website (click here). The President role is especially important, but all positions offer a chance to contribute meaningfully to the club. Please consider stepping up!
November Meeting
The November meeting will mostly focus on club business. We need to elect officers, finalize gallery show changes, and discuss next year’s gallery theme – nature. Our monthly challenge will also be nature themed – great timing!
I hope to see everyone at the November meeting. Your presence strengthens the club and keeps our creative energy alive.
