Meeting Summary

The August meeting turned out to be a pivotal one. Shari Williams, Chamber Vice President, joined us to discuss the benefits of Chamber membership and answered our questions. Following her presentation, we held a discussion on the pros and cons of joining the Chamber and relocating our meetings to their office.

Advantages of the move included:

  • Improved acoustics

  • High-resolution screen for photo viewing

  • Better parking

  • Slight cost advantage

  • Ability to bring refreshments

  • Public relations benefits tied to Chamber membership

Disadvantages noted were:

  • Smaller room size

  • Less appealing aesthetics

  • Inability to return to our previous location should we change our minds

The vote to relocate was nearly unanimous. Starting in September, our meetings will be held at the Chamber of Commerce building.

Gallery Show Discussion

We explored several potential changes to our annual gallery show. While no formal vote was taken, there was general support for the following ideas:

  • Having Cole Center staff curate the show (act as jurors)

  • Members submitting reduced size physical prints for consideration rather than digital files.

  • Members framing their accepted photos and delivering them to the Cole Center

There was no clear consensus on:

  • Whether the show should be judged

  • Whether to retain current submission rules (number of prints and old vs. new)

  • What guidelines should apply to frame size

These topics will be revisited at the October meeting.

Upcoming Programs

September – Robert Martin will present a program on landscape photography. Robert is an accomplished landscape photographer (won first place in last year’s show) and I’m looking forward to his program.

October – We’re planning an SAE program on prints and frames. Members will share a print they have displayed at home and talk about its origin. If you’d like to participate, please let me know asap.

We had an excellent attendance at the August meeting, and I hope to see you all in September. Your presence truly strengthens our club.
